What are the small habits which can ensure my selection in UPSC

Agam Jain, Indian Police Service -

I am writing completely based on my experience. you may differ with it.

Here are the habits-

  • Sleep well (6–7 hours daily depending on the requirement). I used to sleep for 7 hours.
  •
  • Eat well. Dont follow junk food, street food, spicy food etc much. Stick to simple diet.
  •
  • Eat in time. Better to eat before 7 in evening.
  •
  • Avoid drinking and smoking.
  •
  • Avoid following various stuff on internet for a year like the big billion sales, some quora answers, Facebook updates from specific person, youtube videos etc.
  •
  • Dont study with headphones plugged in. It decreases the consistency and the concentration.
  •
  • Take a break for a day every 15 days and meet friends and family.
  •
  • Dont get addicted to anything whether its tea or WhatsApp.
  •
  • Sit back and relax for 5 minutes daily. Give time for yourself. Think about the inspiration and motivation, think about the privileges you already have, think about the uncertainty of life, smile and get back to work with full zeal.
  •
  • Dont waste too much time in the name of pursuing hobbies.
  •
  • Dont watch movies, cricket matches frequently. T20s are specially made for you. Just 3 hours and its done.
  •
  • Dont go for parties, marriages, baby showers, bachelor parties and other blah blah in the name of friendships and the relationships. I am sure if you dont want to go, your friends will surely understand this.
  •
  • I know ‘Ninda Puran’ (bitching) is very addictive but please avoid the gossiping on daily basis. Once in a while may be fine.
  •
  • Keep fruits and dry fruits with you. But dont eat too much while studying. It diverts the mind.
  •
  • Dont waste too much time in the name of taking bath. You might find it odd but I have seen people wasting as much as 40 minutes and good amount of water wasting for bath. In the winters of Delhi, just making the mood to go and take bath itself takes 15 minutes then 15 minutes to get the boiled water then 30 more minutes to get back to study and subsequently we sleep in the coziness of blanket.
  •
  • Dont get into unnecessary debates with friends. They might know few facts more than you but dont get into inferiority complex. Just stick to your schedule.
  •
  • Save money. It might seem unrelated but it indirectly helps in keeping your non sense dreams in chains for some time.
  • Remain content. Dont worry too much about who is clearing what.
  •
  • Dont run too much behind the toppers. Better read NCERT than following their lectures.
  • Follow one/two toppers, check their strategies and get back to work. I have seen people taking interest in their day-to-day lives.

Thats all I can remember as of now.

Jai Hind.
